ABOUT

ME.

01.

BRIEFLY

Call me lucky or call it a curse, but it appears that I have been doing this thing called architecture for an eternity* and very possibly for the rest of my life.

* might just have something to do with my folks giving you tons of colouring books, pencils, crayons, play dough and danish colouring bricks to keep me entertained.

YG_01.jpg

I am a German national born in Jakarta, schooled in Singapore, did my architectural degree at the TU Berlin, and have lived and worked in Berlin, Frankfurt, Singapore, Beijing, Jakarta, Paris and Central Republic of Africa. But for now, here I am in Munich.

My 18 years of professional experience include being an integral part of renowned architecture firms in Germany, China, Singapore and France. To finally realise my life-long agenda to do humanitarian work, I have the privilege to also work with Médecines Sans Frontières in Central African Republic in 2019 and since then I have remained with the organisation as a pool member, looking forward to giving my architectural support on my next missions. I am also currently working to focus and specialise in health-care design.

The diverse projects experiences have taken me to work in varied and sometimes, very unexpected conditions and situations. Whether working in chic obligatoires or cargo pants, sitting in designer offices or on the bare floor for site-meetings, the process for an architect differs little, and I find joy in my design work, analyzing, organizing and finding solutions for the clients while fussing over construction details.

My strong aptitude for problem-solving, discovery and collaboration have consistently allowed me to deliver effective solutions for all situations. I whole-heartedly believe there is a solution to every problem. And since we are at it, why not turn things around and make them really beautiful?

WHAT IS YAP!?

YAP_Business-Cards-Mockup_2.png

YAP! was initially design group initiative created in 2013 with my friend *Paola Sturla to collaborate on projects centred on users’ happiness and therefore the motto Happy Architecture.

Today YAP! stands for Yulia And Partners - because a project is never a one-man show and with “!” because it is exciting!

Many of us may not have noticed but our daily lives are affected and shaped by design environments. Just take a simple example from our offices - functional working spaces not only optimize physical space use but improve efficiency, strategic common spaces can induce and allow exchanges among colleagues without disturbing others at their work desks and natural lighting always bring comfort and improve our mood and again our work efficiency.

The principle of Happy Architecture is to look beyond the aesthetic and functionality and to make users’ happiness as the core of the project’s objective. It does not ignore the ecological and social factor as the reasons are obvious. It also seizes every opportunity to deliver that [+} plus factor.

At LASTPAGE YAP! Happy Architecture shares findings on architecture of happiness such as links to related projects from around the world and tips on designing your own spaces.

*Currently Paola is in Boston, passing her wisdom to lucky students in Harvard Design School. She is still my favourite landscape architect.

The Glass Roof.

"As the students spend 8-12 hours learning the art of cooking, this glass roof not only allow the feeling of not being couped up indoor but allows them to observe the colours of the ingredients under natural light."

Embrace the charm.

During renovation,

be it due to budget constraints or structural limitation, we have to come to terms with "existing situations" which are just "not in our plan". And creativity can make even the "ugliest" columns beautiful.

THE (OTHER) LOVE OF MY LIFE

When on projects, I work hard. So hard that you can double my time and experiences. Pure nature in the mountains and seas have been my escapades for a long time now. I hike (preferably on days and weeks), sail and dive. When in town, I swim, run and climb at the gym. As they say, sports makes our brain better, and rightly so.

I'm also an avid photographer and fan of Behance and design porns( :-) glossy design/ archi magazines with shameless notorious beautiful pictures). Do check out some of the re-posts on design articles on the LASTPAGE.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST.

I really enjoy collaborating with like-minded people. If you have a project or opportunity that would benefit from my involvement, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
